The Information Trust Institute (ITI) is seeking applicants for one (or more) full-time Research
Programmer(s) to work in a team environment with ITI faculty, graduate students and researchers on a
variety of research projects. ITI, a highly successful institute whose mission is to create and validate
trustworthy information systems, provides a richly rewarding work environment. More information on

Responsibilities will include research programming, software design, development, integration,
maintenance and support. This position may also supervise and/or coordinate projects, as well as build
collaborations with external users.

The successful candidate will have enthusiasm, technical competence, the ability to quickly learn new
skills, and attention to detail, which are all critical for success in this position. Communication skills, both
oral and written, and the ability to work independently, are also of the utmost importance.

The position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a
related scientific field, with a preference for an advanced degree. A minimum of two years related work
experience is also required.

The candidate must have significant knowledge and/or experience with application development in
C/C++, plus distributed and/or multithreaded programming. Preference will be given to candidates with
the following additional skills: networking, Java, software development tools (CVS/ SVN, bugzilla, wiki,
etc), SQL, shell scripting and Unix/Windows/Mac system administration.

This is a 12-month, regular academic professional position with applicable University benefits. Salary
will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Starting date is as soon as possible after the

Senior or Principal Research Scientist

The Information Trust Institute (ITI) is seeking applications for a full-time Senior or Principal Research Scientist to coordinate major technical engagements, supporting university-industry-federal research projects in the broad fields of information assurance, trustworthy distributed systems, and trusted software. The Senior or Principal Research Scientist will manage research relationships and new initiatives, coordinate technology transfer with industry partners and represent ITI in the national and international academic community.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaboratively conduct & coordinate research and development, in coordination with ITI faculty.
  • Provide recommendations and management for ITI's research initiatives, including the Boeing Trusted Software Center.
  • Supervise graduate students and other professional staff.
  • Write proposals for funding to federal and industrial funding agencies and coordinate funded projects.
  • Manage technical projects, including organizing and effectively orchestrating multi-staff and multi-team efforts, monitoring status, preparing reports, making presentations and setting and achieving technical goals, objectives, and budgets.
  • Regular travel, in particular to the Seattle, Washington area.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field with an emphasis on computer/system trust/trustworthiness and at least five years experience in computer/system trust/trustworthiness research and development, excellent research credentials as exemplified by a strong publication record in the trust/trustworthiness area, experience with writing successful grants to federal and other funding agencies for conducting research and development, and experience leading and managing trust/trustworthiness research and development projects.

Associate Director

The Information Trust Institute (ITI) provides national and international leadership combining research
and education with industrial outreach in trustworthy and secure information systems. ITI brings together
over 90 faculty and senior researchers, many graduate student researchers, and industry partners to
conduct foundational and applied research to enable the creation of critical applications and cyber
infrastructures. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a person with superb organizational,
business, and communication skills to contribute to the management of the operations of ITI, to support &
grow stakeholder relationships, and to lead the acquisition of resources for ITI’s research and education
programs.

The Associate Director provides managerial leadership to ITI and oversees the day-to-day operations of
the institute. Duties and responsibilities include overseeing ITI administrative and support staff; acting as
a liaison with researchers, sponsors and other stakeholders; coordinating and contributing to project
reporting; project renewals and funding requests; coordinating and organizing ITI meetings, workshops
and symposia; implementation and management of contractual relationships; assisting with public
relations and outreach programs; development of education, research, industrial and recruiting programs;
and management of ITI personnel. The Associate Director also assists in business development activities
by supporting new funding opportunities and new programs, assisting in the preparation of proposals, and
contributing to the fostering of stakeholder relationships.

Minimum qualifications include a BS degree (MS preferred) and five or more years of relevant
experience in a university environment or in an industrial or national research laboratory. Relevant
experience involves project management and overseeing science or engineering programs, developing and
delivering major research proposals, and knowledge of the operating procedures of the various private
and public funding agencies sufficient to permit quality interactions and all administrative matters
pertaining to various stakeholders. The successful candidate must have outstanding organizational skills
and outstanding oral and written communications skills. A higher degree (e.g., MS/MBA/PhD) is
desirable, but not a substitute for relevant work experience.

The position is a twelve-month, full time (100%) academic professional appointment. Salary is
competitive and is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Starting date is as soon as possible
after the closing date.
